Stroke Code 2.0
Twelve million people have experienced the meaning of that word firsthand, and more than 7 million have suffered its final consequences. According to the World Stroke Organization (WSO), stroke remains the second leading cause of death worldwide and the third leading cause of disability in Europe. Recent data estimates the global cost of stroke at $890.000 million (0.66% of global GDP).
In Spain, the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN) reports that figures have increased by 70% since 1990. One in four people will suffer a stroke in their lifetime; yet, despite this, only 50% of Spaniards can correctly identify stroke symptoms.
Today, we find ourselves in an era of both changes and challenges. As Stephen Hawking once said: “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” Driven by infrastructure, resources, and economic necessity, we must pursue the coherent and strategic adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in critical care processes such as stroke where “time is brain” providing healthcare professionals with tools that allow them to go further and perform better.
In this context, MDRinAIS (Minimizing Door to Reperfusion Times in Drip and Ship Model for Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke) has emerged. This group aims to utilize AI to reduce waiting times and optimize patient transfers within the Stroke Code protocol.
