State-of-the-art biplanar neuro-angiograph for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Neuroradiology inaugurated in Siena
The Santa Maria alle Scotte Hospital in Siena has inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art biplane neuro-angiograph, costing $1.9 million (mostly funded by PNRR and Tuscany Region funds), to replace older equipment and enhance diagnostic and therapeutic neuroradiology activities under the direction of Dr. Sandra Bracco. This advanced machine provides more detailed and sharper images, significantly improving accuracy and reducing errors in complex procedures, and also minimizes patient exposure to contrast medium and radiation. The inauguration was attended by numerous regional and local authorities who highlighted the angiograph as a crucial step in the hospital’s technological modernization and a testament to the region’s commitment to healthcare excellence and patient well-being, with ongoing structural upgrades also underway, including a $50 million investment in the new Volano Lot. The new angiograph is housed in a redesigned “angiography hub” and features advanced software for guiding spinal lesion treatments and hybrid diagnostic capabilities, such as high-resolution CT brain images, expanding its use for various cerebrovascular conditions and positioning neuroradiologists as hybrid diagnostic and interventional specialists.
